Basically a one volume encyclopedia, with chapters on: Understanding the Universeeach section is complete enough to satisfy without being so detailed as to overwhelm. This is one of those books that the family stole from my pile before I had a chance to read and they thoroughly enjoyed going through it and getting a quick education.
