Believe it or not, The Wife is generally less enthused than yours truly when another book arrives on our doorstep. Indeed, it's not unheard of for her to snarl at the thuds. So there is no higher compliment you can pay this exquisite book than to note that she grabbed it away and read through it herself first. The Sheumakers have not only assembled an invaluable collection of worthwhile historic sites for families to visit, they've also provided miniature history lessons about each one and illustrated the text so generously and beautifully that you'll want to visit all of them. If you're still looking for a perfect Christmas gift for friends or family this is an ideal choice. But be sure to buy one for yourself and your family too, just in case no one is returning the favor.
